Welcome to the admission process at WUHS (Belize)!

The next several months will be a time of excitement and some anxiety as you take the steps to achieve your goal of becoming a physician. The School of Medicine has resources and programs available for applicants to make the process as easy as possible.
The Admissions Selection Committee encourages applicants of both genders and from all socioeconomic, racial, age groups, religious, and educational backgrounds.

Admission Process Steps

  • Step 1

Online Applications: All applicants to WUHS (Belize), apply online.

  • Step 2

Secondary Applications: This information is unique to WUHS (Belize) and gives our admissions committee more specific information on applicants. Secondary applications are only provided to applicants who have met WUHS (Belize) interview criteria. The sooner an applicant returns this information, the more quickly he or she will be scheduled for an interview.

  • Step 3

Interviews: Applicants to WUHS (Belize) receive 2 interviews, on either the US admission office or on the phone . Each applicant is interviewed by a admissions committee member and a second, third, or fourth year medical student. Each interview is weighed equally in the admissions process. WUHS (Belize) interviews are “blinded”. The school will contact you regarding interviewing as your application moves through the review process. Please remain patient during this part of the process.

  • Step 4

Proof of residency (US and Canadian students) must be submitted. Applicants will be provided with the paperwork and submission requirements as part of the secondary application packet.

  • Step 5

Admissions Committee Review: The applicant’s part is now complete. Admissions Committee members begin the thorough review of each applicant in preparation for a series of four meetings.

  • Step 6

Admissions Notification: Each applicant will receive written notification of the decision by the Admissions Committee.
    Evaluation Criteria.

Candidates are evaluated on the basis of academic performance, the nature and depth of scholarly, extracurricular, and health care related activities during college years (excellence and balance of the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities); academic letters of evaluation; and the personal interview. Interviews are held on the phone and at our main admission office in the states.
